What can you do to adjust to life after prison?

You have just been released from prison and are now facing an uncertain future as you readjust to life. While serving your prison term, you made new goals for yourself and have committed to living a successful life in Oregon. Fortunately, there are things you can do to give yourself the best possible chance at living a successful life and putting your criminal past behind you for good. 

According to Classroom, when you approach your freedom with the right mindset and by doing the right things, you can integrate back into society in a way that is productive and enjoyable. A big part of your success from here on out is your commitment to doing things differently and focusing your efforts on being responsible, respectful and successful. Here are some of the things you can do:

  • Consider asking for professional help. Counselors and therapists are excellent resources to use as you work through your emotions and learn healthy ways to cope and heal. 
  • Find yourself a safe and supportive environment to live in. Try to find a place that is within close proximity to your job and to friends and family who can provide support.
  • Associate with individuals who care about you and are committed to helping you become a better person. 
  • Get yourself a good job. Having a job can provide you with income and can also serve as an outlet to keep you busy.
