Families can be rough, even during the best of times. Though, during these especially trying times, when we are forced to spend even more time together, family squabbles can quickly escalate. After all, we may not have the option to just go to a friend’s house or somewhere to let off some steam. Unfortunately, for one local woman, this is playing out in her life.
The alleged domestic violence incident
According to the Portland Police Department, the alleged domestic violence incident occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 30 at an apartment building located at the 1200 block of Southwest Washington Street. When the officers arrived shortly before 8:00 a.m., they found a yet-to-be identified person with a stab wound. They were immediately taken to the hospital. The alleged assailant was still inside the apartment.
Both the Special Emergency Reaction Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team were called in to diffuse the situation. During negotiations, PPD shut down part of SW Washington between SW 14th Avenue and SW 11th Avenue. And, after several hours of negotiation, the Portland resident was arrested.
The 32-year-old local woman was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center. She now faces 1st-degree burglary, 2nd-degree assault, strangulation and domestic violence coercion charges.
Of course, no one, except those two that were involved in this incident know what happened. And, while sometimes accusations of domestic violence are accurate and justified, other times, they are not. Overreactions can happen. Regardless though, once he police are involved, call a Portland, Oregon, lawyer. A lawyer can help the accused avoid criminal charges or a conviction that one does not deserve.
